ANANTAPUR: Tenders for the first phase of high voltage distribution system (HVDS) project in the district will be called within a week. An amount of about Rs. 100 crores will be spent in the first phase out of a total project cost of Rs. 430 crores. As part of the pilot project, installation of the system is in progress in three feeders in Singanamala, Yellanur and Gorantla mandals. "Even under the implementation stage of the pilot project, satisfaction of farmers over improved quality of power and reduction in line losses is being noticed," Superintending Engineer of Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Ltd B. Veera Reddy said. The project would be implemented in 24 out of 360 feeders in the district, six each in four divisions, the SE said. The project's objectives were to reduce distribution losses, improve quality of power, control theft of power and cut the incidence of transformer failure (burning). To achieve the desired results, existing 100 KVA transformers will be replaced with small capacity transformers of 50/63/75 KVA. Each transformer will serve four to five farm connections, developing a sense of belonging among ryots. As the material will be supplied on turn-key basis, failed transformers will be replaced free of cost for five years by contractors. "The recurring expenditure will be wiped out once the project is implemented all over the district," Mr. Veera Reddy said.
