KOLLAM: Fisheries and Sports Minister Dominic Presentation called upon all concerned to ensure that development activities do not upset the balance of nature. He was inaugurating Trance-05, a three-day symposium on `disaster mitigation and management' at the TKM College of Engineering here on Thursday. Often it is man's greed to exploit the earth's resources without any control that triggers disasters. While natural disasters cannot be averted, the practical aspect is how to deal with its aftermath. Sometimes even developed countries are seen unable to rise to the occasion as was witnessed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the U.S., the Minister said. In his keynote address, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment Director K.R.S. Krishnan said that in order to overcome disasters, human response has to be planned.
