Hyderabad: Abdul Fareed's seven for 12 runs off nine overs helped Wesley Junior College defeat St. John's Church Junior College by seven wickets in the final of the Parle Cup inter-school under-17 cricket tournament here on Thursday. Fareed was adjudged Man of the Match for the final and Azmath Khan, also of Wesley JC, was adjudged Man of the Series. Former Test cricketer Noel David gave away the prizes. The scores: Parle Cup final: St. John's Church JC 91 (Yuvraj Yadav 35 not out, Abdul Fareed seven for 12) lost to Wesley JC 95 for three (Sandilya 43 not out, Azmath Khan 30). A Division two-day league: Nizam College 290 and 72 for seven (Paridhar four for six) drew with Telengana CC 148 (Amit 44, Sridhar 40, Shaik Ateeq-Ur-Rehman six for 38). A Division knockout (one-day): S.K. Blues CC 167 bt MCC 127 (Syed Kaleem 41, Jayprakash four for 23). Central Bank of India 66 (Vaman Kumar five for 19) lost to Sultan Shahi CC 70 for four. Abhinav Colts 98 lost to Postal CC 102 for two (T. Vijay Kumar 62 not out).
Double for Sainik School
In the girls' section Lawrence School won both age groups while Vignan's PPN was second in under-14.
Hyderabad Public School and Chinmaya International were joint runner-up in under-19 group.
The winners and runners-up will take part in the national CBSE schools hockey tournament to be held in Ludhiana (Punjab) in November.
Shashank nets seven
In other matches Valerian Grammar School defeated Model HS 7-0, St. Patricks HS drew with Don Bosco HS 2-2 and Kendriya Vidyalaya Picket beat Gitanjali Public School 1-0.
DMRL beats SCR
The teams were locked goalless at the end of full-time. Even in the tiebreaker the teams drew four-all with Qayuum, Hyder, Sena and Alamdar scoring for DMRL and Alfred, Aslam, Laxminarayana and Roshan scoring for SCR.
Thereafter in sudden death tiebreaker SCR had the misfortune of seeing Nidhi miss the target while DMRL's Richard found the mark. Goalkeeper Habib Khan of DMRL was adjudged `Best Player' of the match.
Nizam Assn wins
The scores: Men: Nizam Basketball Assn 45 (Ahmed 17, Burt Ronald 10, Ashish 10) bt Secunderabad Club 35 (Zain 10).
YMCA Secunderabad 59 (Santosh 17, Varun Dev 13, Mani 12) bt Lalaguda Hoopsters 41 (Vinod 15, G.V.S. Raju 13).
Women: St. Francis bt Victory Playground 24-19.
