Samalkot: TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu has declared that his party will support farmer's movement in getting legitimate compensation for their lands, which they are going to lose under irrigation project. At the same time, he clarified that the party was not against irrigation projects or industrialisation. Addressing a press conference in Deccan Sugars guesthouse here on Thursday after TDP leader Mudragada Padmanabham's fast was called off, Mr. Naidu suggested that the Government negotiate with farmers in acquiring their lands.
Guidelines
He said that the Central Government had given guidelines for rehabilitation and livelihood of farmers in a liberal way. He took objection to the way in which the Mudragada issue was pursued by the district administration and the Government. He said that on the Governor's intervention only the Government responded at last minute. He recalled that during his tenure as Chief Minister, he took the help of Lok Adalats in settling a number of land acquisition cases. He said the party local units would take up farmers' compensation issues.
