VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that the Government's `Adarshanandhra Pradesh' scheme is yet another "drama" aimed at covering up its failure in fulfilling the aspirations of people.

Addressing a press conference at Gannavaram Airport near here, Mr. Naidu said that the people were not in a mood to believe the new schemes. In the past two years, the ruling Congress party could not implement any of its promises made at the time of elections. "They have not reduced the price of domestic gas. They have failed on many other fronts. Who will believe their new scheme to spend Rs. 23,000 crores?" Mr. Naidu asked.

The TDP president pointed out that the Government had made many claims about turning the State into "Haritandhra Pradesh". They had not spent a single rupee for this. They had not released any money to give pension. The Government did not even bother to fill 18,000 teacher posts. Going by this, nobody would believe that the Government would mobilise and spend so much money for development of infrastructure in every nook and corner of the State.

    `Creating chaos'

Mr. Naidu lamented that under the Congress rule, the State was being driven towards a Bihar-type of chaotic situation. It was evident in the Chief Minister's own Pulivendula constituency. The TDP leaders and cadres were facing a lot of harassment across the State. The party would fight against the harassment and it would educate the public about its fallout on the image of the State.

    Attacks condemned

The TDP president accused Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy of encouraging the Congress cadres to threaten and attack the Opposition leaders. In the municipal elections, they had not spared even the media in Nellore. "I have never practiced this kind of politics. I will not follow it in future. We are prepared to face any kind of situation," Mr. Naidu said.

He said that the Government should adopt a liberal policy in giving compensation to the farmers who would lose their lands under irrigation projects. He pointed out that the Government had failed to meet the demands of Mudrgada Padmanabham. The issue was resolved only after several farmers reportedly offered their land to the affected farmers under the Polavaram project.

Mr. Naidu had a brief and informal meeting with TDP urban president Gadde Rammohan, vice-president Katragadda Nagamalleswara Rao (Babu), TDP district general secretary Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Chalasani Venkateswara Rao (Pandu) and TDP corporators.
