Indian Bank adopts village

CHENNAI:
Kuthampakkam village has been adopted by Indian Bank, Tirumazhisai, Tiruvallur district, in association with the Department of Agriculture Mobile Soil Testing Centre, Tiruvallur.
A free soil testing and tree planting campaign was conducted. Nearly 100 soil samples were tested and reports were handed over to farmers with suggestions of suitable crops to cultivate there and reclamation of soil.
Indian Bank has sponsored seedling of various tree species.
General Manager of Indian Bank, Chennai, said: "The bank is always interested in the uplift of rural people and is willing to finance all viable activities." He emphasised the need for proper utilisation of bank finance to improve the standard of living.
The Mobile Soil Testing Centre also distributed soil health cards and a soil health profile to enable farmers of the village to assess the health of their soil.
Loans up to Rs. 5 lakhs to 17 self-help groups were distributed for rural housing.
Three farmer clubs were also formed to improve the liaison of the villagers with the bank.
