Farm coordination panel formed

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has constituted a coordination committee to focus on agriculturaldevelopment and policy. The panel, chaired by the Prime Minister, will "identify key areas in agriculture that require fresh policy initiatives, outline follow-up action for policies adopted; identify institutional mechanisms to implement policies and programmes, and monitor them."

The committee includes the Union Ministers for Agriculture and Food, Fertilizers and Chemicals, Finance, Commerce and Industry, Water Resources and Rural Development; the Ministers of State for Food Processing and Science and Technology, the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, the Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the National Commission on Farmers and the Member (Agriculture), Planning Commission. Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T.K.A Nair will be the convener.
