Ex gratia for TNEB contract workers

CHENNAI:
The State Government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs.750 for each of the 8,500 contract workers and 3,300 part-time and contingency workers of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) for this year.
In a statement, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said here on Thursday that the identified contract workers who were in service for five years and part-time and contingency workers were given an ex-gratia of Rs.500 last year.
They had demanded the benefit this year, too.
The decision would cost the TNEB Rs.88.50 lakhs, she said.
Ms. Jayalalithaa inaugurated the disbursal of 8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia to workers of the TNEB, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, Aavin and Poompuhar Shipping Corporation by handing over the money to 28 workers at the Secretariat.
Arrears distributed
She also handed over arrears to six TNEB workers to mark the commencement of issuance of the amount ranging from Rs.22,820 to Rs.77,749 as per the wage accord signed by the electricity employees unions on October 15.
