NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Thursday decided to rename the Varanasi airport as Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport as a tribute to the late Prime Minister on the eve of his birth centenary for his "sacrifices and unforgettable contributions to the nation." The Cabinet also approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Canada in the field of climate change. The Union Cabinet's Committee on Economic Affairs, which also met on Thursday, cleared the setting up of the 520 MW third stage of the Parbati hydroelectric project in Himachal Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,304 crores. The project is a run of the river scheme on the river Sainj in Kullu district.
