CHENNAI: Inmates of the Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College hostel at Puraswakkam in central Chennai have run into a major problem.

The week-long rain has led to the problem of sewage overflow in the hostel rooms and toilets, the students complain.

The entire campus is found with stagnated sewerage and rainwater. The hostel inmates claimed that they were unable to get their grievance redressed in the past week. On Thursday morning, they resorted to a novel protest. All the inmates brought out their cots and chairs and lined up in front of the hostel gate in ankle-deep sewerage and rainwater. They staged a dharna by holding aloft banners explaining the pitiable conditions of the hostel. The students said they were unable to use the toilets that were overflowing with waste and rainwater.
