Tambaram municipality cracks down on hygiene violations

TAMBARAM: Officials of the Tambaram Municipality destroyed meat and other foodstuff in a few restaurants in Tambaram that were reportedly stale.

The Municipality conducted the inspection at a few non-vegetarian restaurants. Inspection of the refrigerators and facilities in the kitchen revealed that the hygiene levels were far below the laid down norms.

At one of the restaurant, they noticed that seafood was stored in a refrigerator without proper packing.

Further, the refrigerators were also not maintained properly.

Some items were served to customers a day after they were cooked.

Officials said meat varieties were purchased several days before they were actually cooked and served. They added that checks would continue and action under provisions of the Public Health Act would be initiated against violators.
