Bid to develop individual-to-individual rapport between young leaders

CHENNAI: Fifteen young leaders from the country would travel to China next month in a bid to create a platform to further understanding between the two countries.

This was part of the attempt of the Confederation of Indian Industry/Young Indians to develop individual-to-individual rapport between young leaders across the world, said Narayan Sethuraman, national vice-chairman, Young Indians.

CII/YI leaders are in Mahabalipuram near here for the second Indo-German Young Leaders Forum meeting. The theme of the meet is `Networks, cooperation and change.'

As many as 49 young leaders — 25 from India and 24 from Germany — drawn from business, politics, medicine, academia and the media, are attending the four-day meet that focuses on the significance of networks to understand the current developments in business and other spheres of activity. The meet has been organised by the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt and the CII/YI. The group meets every year alternately in Germany and India and seeks to promote mutual understanding between the two countries through the building of personal relationships. The Forum will deliberate on issues such as the need for networks, local clusters and international networks and building networks in global politics.

Mr. Sethuraman said that the discussions would also focus on how India and Germany could position themselves to take advantage of the emerging models of networks, collaboration between industries, universities and Governments and how high technology centres and innovative clusters could contribute to sustainable development. A separate session has been devoted to current ties between India and Germany and opportunities for strengthening them in the future.
