State allots 100 acres of land for Wipro

Government signs Memorandum of Understanding with company


  • Land allotted for company's expansion
  • Wipro at present is operating from its 30-acre premises in Madhapur
  • State offers more incentives and facilities for IT firms
  • Wipro chief thanks YSR for State's cooperation

    HYDERABAD : The State Government has allotted 100 acres of land to Wipro at Gopannapalli on the city outskirts for taking up expansion. Another seven-acre land was also allotted to the IT major at Visakhapatnam.

    The State Government signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect with the Wipro in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday.

    IT secretary K. Ratna Prabha represented the State Government in the MoU while Wipro COO A.L. Rao was the signatory on behalf of Wipro.

    Rise in IT exports

    Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister reiterated his Government's commitment to provide a congenial investor-friendly climate by offering incentives and facilities to the companies coming forward to invest in the State.

    The State, which registered a 64.5 per cent increase in IT exports, had 30 per cent cost advantage for locating ICT units in terms of physical infrastructure, human resources and standard of living when compared with other IT hubs.

    Wipro, the US $ 1.8 billion company, is one of the largest employers with a team of 43,000 across the country and is presently operating in Hyderabad from its 30-acre premises in Madhapur. Wipro chairman Azim Premji who spoke to Dr. Reddy over the phone thanked him for the cooperation being extended by the State Government to Wipro and the priority it had accorded to IT/ITES sectors, according to an official press release.
