Power shutdown today

Kochi: Power supply on Ponurruni Convent Road, Sahakarana Road and Lal Salam Road will be affected between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday owing to maintenance work, according to a communication from the Kerala State Electricity Board. — Staff Reporter

Ten arrested on gambling charge

Kochi: Shadows, a special team of the city police, said here on Thursday that a gambling centre, operated by 40-odd people in an old building, near Thoppil Estate, on Vytilla Janata Road, was busted. The raid followed a tip-off. Ten persons were arrested and Rs. 13,000 seized from the spot.

BSNL employees' conference

Kochi: Employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) have decided to continue their stir for what they call protecting the public-sector giant in the industry. This was decided at a district conference of the BSNL Employees' Union, which ended here on Thursday. The meeting elected the office-bearers of the association for the next two years. K.A. Augustine is the new president; V.R. Ravindran Nair, K.N. Rajappan, V.K. Bose and C.A. Narayanan Nair vice-presidents; P.S. Peetambaran secretary; and K.S. Pushkaran treasurer. — Staff Reporter
