Two held, stolen vehicles recovered

NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested by the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the South Delhi police for allegedly stealing vehicles. Seven stolen vehicles have been recovered at their instance.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Satpal and Sewa Ram, were arrested near Ansal Plaza in South Delhi on Wednesday. Several duplicate keys and drilling machine have been recovered from them. Among the recovered vehicles, five are Maruti cars, one Toyota Qualis and a motorcycle. The police claimed to have solved 26 cases of vehicle thefts with their arrest.

Crackers seized

NEW DELHI: One person who had allegedly stored more than 400 kg of firecrackers to be sold during Diwali has been arrested by the South-West Delhi police.

The police said Amit Kumar Gupta, a resident of Mayapuri in South-West Delhi, was arrested on Wednesday and 427 kg firecrackers, which he had stored without any licence, was seized. Further investigations are on.

New SpiceJet flight

NEW DELHI: SpiceJet, the low-cost domestic air carrier, on Thursday announced the launch of its daily direct flights between Delhi and Kolkata. Flights will begin from November 6 with special `Red Hot' fares of Rs. 999 available until November 30 as well as another special fare of Rs. 1899, available for travel up to January 31 next.

Woman arrested

NEW DELHI: A woman, allegedly involved in cheating a NRI family, has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. A reward of Rs. 10,000 had been declared for her arrest.

The police said the accused, Kalpana Srivastava, had cheated a doctor couple, who lived in the United Arab Emirates. They had three properties in the Capital all of which was fraudulently taken over by the accused, her husband and her relatives. She was absconding for the past seven years and was also declared Proclaimed Offender in two cases. Further investigations in the case are on.

Crushed to death

NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old electrician, Vipin, a resident of Sector 7 in Rohini, died on Thursday morning after he allegedly got trapped between the lift and the wall.

He was working at Rang Rasayan Apartment reportedly trying to get the lift working after a resident of the apartment, S. L. Aggarwal, was stranded there this morning around 7-15 a.m. when the mishap occurred. Vipin's body has been sent for post-mortem. Mr. Aggarwal, however, is safe.

Woman ends life

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her house at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the police, Rama, wife of Data Ram, a resident of Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar, hanged herself with the help of a sari around 2 a.m.Preliminary investigations revealed that Rama, married for the past 13 years and mother of two children, had an affair with another man.

Cop dies in accident

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old Delhi police constable was killed when the motorcycle he was riding on was hit by a truck at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi on Thursday. The driver of the truck has been arrested.
