SALEM: Students of the Salem Government Arts College will soon have the chance to study in virtual classrooms and interact with experts and students in various parts of the country.
EDUSAT connectivity
The Directorate of Collegiate Education had selected the college for installing a Satellite Interactive Remote Terminal (SIRT), which will help get connectivity to EDUSAT, an education satellite. Students can take part in the virtual classes with the help of a television or a computer with LCD through the SIRT, also called EDUSAT Centre.
Live telecast
"Lectures from Indira Gandhi National Open University, Anna University and advance research centres such as the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, will be telecast live to these centres via EDUSAT. The advantage of the centre is that students can interact with the experts," Principal of the college, S. Murugesan, said. Interaction with students in other parts of the country is also possible. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will provide necessary equipment to the college to run the centre. The Presidency College, Chennai, Bharathi Women's College, Chennai, Government College (Men), Kumbakonam, and Madurai Meenakshi Government College for Women will also get a similar centre.
