Student alleged to have threatened woman staff

PATHANAMTHITTA: The management of the Musaliyar College of Engineering and Technology at Malayalappuzha near here has alleged that the violence unleashed by a group of students at the college on Monday, following the suspension of a seventh-semester student, was part of a plot by certain outside forces aimed at maligning the reputation of the institution.

In a statement here on Friday, the management said that S. Shameem was suspended for misbehaving and abusing a woman staff at the college library. The student who had even threatened the woman staff was suspended only when the management was fully convinced of the misbehaviour on the part of the student, the statement said.

It said that the a group of students, who protested against the suspension, unleashed a false propaganda that the workers who came to the college campus for certain civil work were `goondas' hired by the management. The workers sought refuge in the college office when the students made attempts to assault them, the statement said.

The agitating students who unleashed violence on the campus incurring heavy loss to the management misled the police, it said.

The police party that rushed to the spot failed to disperse the violent students or check them from violence on the campus, it alleged.

The statement also said that action was necessary against those students who had unleashed terror and misbehaved with teachers on the campus so as to uphold the reputation of the institution.
