Deputy Mayor seeks advance bail

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Deputy Mayor of Chennai Corporation Karate R. Thiagarajan has sought anticipatory bail from a sessions court here, apprehending arrest in some unknown cases.

"I reliably understand that a plan is being hatched to register some case against me by obtaining false complaint from parties and then arresting me at the direction of some political heads," Mr. Thiagarajan said.

Stating that he was not aware of any crime number or complaint lodged in any of the police stations in the State, he arraigned DGP, COP, Central Crime Branch police and Teynampet police as respondents and said, "a larger conspiracy to fix me and arrest because of political animosity was on."

He apprehended arrest under charges of cheating and criminal intimidation and added that till recently, he was a member of the All-India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.
