KOCHI: The Janakeeya Samithi in Vaduthala has decided to intensify its agitation demanding that the rail link to the proposed transhipment terminal in Vallarpadom should not be routed through Vaduthala.

Representatives of the Samithi pointed out that the Cochin Port Trust authorities had not furnished the details regarding the alignment of the proposed rail link.

C.J. Antony, general convener of the samithi, said on Friday that they had requested the Chief Engineer of the Cochin Port Trust to provide drawings and sketches of various alignments.

The Samithi had also asked the Port authorities to furnish data related to various other proposals on the proposed rail link. Mr. Antony said the Samithi had not received the details despite the Government announcing that the public could seek any records under the Right to Information Act.

The representatives said that the proposed rail link would affect hundreds of residents in Vaduthala.

The residents are already suffering a lot on account of the two railway crossings in the area.

The Samithi leaders expressed doubts whether the meeting scheduled on Saturday to discuss the issue will evolve any result.

A meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had decided to hold further talks to resolve the deadlock regarding the proposed rail alignment to Vallarpadom. MPs, MLAs, Kochi Mayor and officials of Cochin Port Trust will participate in Saturday's meeting.
