Indian Airlines flight delayed due to fuel leak
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Passengers on board Indian Airlines IC-617 from Mumbai to Hyderabad on Saturday had a miraculous escape as an alert passenger noticed fuel leakage from the left side of aircraft before it took off from Mumbai airport.
Ramaswamy, general manager at IDPL here said, "Had the leakage been noticed after the take-off, the aircraft would have exploded mid-air."
The flight was supposed to take off at 9 a.m. and reach Hyderabad at 10.15 a.m. but was delayed for over two hours. The leakage was noticed by Ashok Apsingkar, an officer in BDL, but the aircraft staff claimed it was water and not oil. Mr. Apsingkar alerted the other passengers who forced the staff to stop the plane.
The ground staff tried to stop the leakage but in vain.
