KANNUR:
A group of jail inmates in a block in the Central Jail here allegedly intimidated jail officials on Saturday and gave vent to their hostility against the search conducted in the block on Friday night for weapons and smuggled items.
Jail officials here said that Jailer K. Gopalakrishnan and warden M. Shaji were intimidated by the prisoners, allegedly workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Block VIII. When the jail officials opened the block on Saturday morning, the prisoners surrounded them and raised threats against another jail official who had led the team of jail personnel in the search operations on Friday night. Jail authorities said the two officials were not manhandled by the inmates. There was an altercation between the jail officials on duty and the prisoners, they said.
