New chairman for HIL

NEW DELHI: K. Harikumar has taken over as Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL).

Mr. Harikumar so far was Director (Marketing). He has vast experience of marketing basic chemicals and pesticides.

Record dividend by Bharat Electronics

NEW DELHI: Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), the premier public sector defence undertaking, has paid its highest ever dividend of 112 per cent for fiscal 2004-05. Chairman and Managing Director Y. Gopala Rao presented the dividend cheque for Rs. 43.69 crores to Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee this past week.

This was the final dividend of 72 per cent payable to the Union Government for 2004-05. A 40 per cent interim dividend of Rs. 24.27 crores was paid in December 2004.

Music in the park

NEW DELHI: Hindustani vocalists Parween Sultana and Ustad Dilshad Khan enthralled a large number of music lovers at Nehru Park here on Saturday. They were participating in the ongoing Music in the Park `Evening Ragas' series organised by NDMC in association with Star India and Spic-Macay, with lush green trees providing a perfect backdrop.

The series is aimed at improving urban life and bringing art and culture out of the confines of museums and auditoria into the open where the public can participate in good numbers.

NCO celebrates 55th birthday

NEW DELHI: The National Cultural Organisation founded by N. P. Seshadri and inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru in October 1950 celebrated its 55th anniversary this past weekend with a programme of Vedic chants, music and dance. Harshalata presented a Kathak show after which Swetha Gopalan performed Bharatanatyam. Sakunthala Seshadri and Raji Gopalan sang "Tiruppavai" compositions.

Shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan, who has been participating in NCO festivals regularly, lauded Dr. Seshadri's efforts to maintain "the highest traditions of Indian culture".

IGNOU admission

NEW DELHI: The last date for receipt of applications for admission to the certificate programmes of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) for the January 2006 session is November 30.

The prospectus can be purchased either from IGNOU headquarters.
