NEW DELHI: The very first meeting of the Ethics Committee held at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office under the leadership of DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma on Saturday decided to ask all elected representatives to submit their annual statements of assets and income as per directions issued by party president Sonia Gandhi.

Mr. Sharma said it had been decided to appoint an in-charge of the Ethics Committee in every district for proper implementation of the code of conduct issued by Ms. Gandhi for which the chairman, Bansi Lal Mehta had been asked to carry out the necessary exercise.

Emphasising the need to practise austerity at all levels, the Ethics Committee asked all Congress workers and leaders to abstain from pomp and show during all personal and official functions and also avoid attending lavish parties and functions. Mr. Sharma announced that the Ethics Committee would meet twice every month and also hold meetings at the block and district level to ensure that the directions of the party president were followed in letter and in spirit. Stating that all elected representatives had been asked to submit the details of their annual statements, Mr. Sharma said an official communication would soon be issued in this regard The 12-member Ethics Committee was set up by Mr. Sharma last week following directions issued by the Congress president.
