Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: The Shalom Charitable Trust, a non-profit NGO engaged in empowering and capacity building of the rural and urban poor by organising self-help initiative movements, will organise `Oruma Sangam Sangamam' at the Town Hall on October 25.

The Trust has organised 510 Self-Help Groups with 6,414 members. It has distributed loans amounting to Rs.1.25 cores among 1,878 members.

The Trust has given training for income generating activities, building houses, providing education and healthcare facilities to the poor, Managing Trustee Jayson Joy said. The Trust has built 300 houses for the poor.

The Save and Build project being implemented by the Trust is to provide housing for the poor who neither own land nor a house of their own.

Palakkad being one of the backward districts in the State, housing need is so acute and the intervention of NGOs and banks is the need of the hour, he said.
