BELLARY: Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary and former Union Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar has described the outburst of the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda against Infosys chief mentor Narayana Murthy a "unwise."

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, he said that Karnataka is in the number one position as far as software exports is concerned and the State is considered one of the important destinations for information technology. "Under these circumstances, an atmosphere has to be created that is conducive for the development and expansion of the IT sector instead of mounting a scathing attack against the IT giants," he said.

"Such an attitude on the part of Mr. Deve Gowda is regressive and considered anti-development and anti-reforms," he said adding that the metro rail, the international airport, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation project, irrigation and power projects are not coming up owing to such a stand adopted by Mr. Gowda.

Mr. Ananth Kumar, came down heavily on the United Progressive Alliance Government for is failure to arrest the steep hike in the prices of essential commodities.

Jagadish Shettar, President of the State unit of the BJP, claimed that the response to the party's "Sangharsh Yatra," organised to highlight the failures of the State Government is good.

`Elections inevitable'

Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly B.S. Yediyurappa said that elections are inevitable in the event of the fall of the Congress-led coalition Government in the State.

"Elections will be the only alternative and there is no question of supporting the Janata Dal (Secular) in case the coalition government falls," he said. Expressing his displeasure over the opinion of Chief Minister Dharam Singh that there is no need to convene an emergency session of the Assembly, Mr. Yediyurappa said the Chief Minister lacked moral courage to face the House.

He accused the coalition government of not being keen on implementing the D.M. Nanjundappa committee report on redressing the regional imbalances. Janardhan Reddy, President of the district unit; Karnunakar Reddy, MP; B. Sriramulu, MLA; G. Somashekar Reddy, Bellary Mayor; Suresh Kumar, Arvind Limbawali, were among others who were present.
