Heads for consumer bodies appointed

They are expected to take charge soon

CHENNAI: In a move that will bring cheer to litigant consumers, the State Government has posted presidents for nine District Consumer Disputes Redressal Fora (DCDRF). Some of these posts were vacant for more than a year.

The orders have been issued, and the new appointees were expected to take charge soon, official sources told The Hindu .

However, the post of president of the Madurai DCDRF remains vacant; the incumbent retired this month.

Need for members

Sources said the posts of members were also vacant in the Perambalur, Theni, Salem, Nagapattinam, Chennai (North), Vellore, Pudukottai, Udhagamandalam, Coimbatore and Nagercoil bodies.

While P. Gopala Krishnapillai has been appointed president of the Nilgiris district fora, N. Nagarajan has been appointed to the Tiruchirappalli body, D. Baskar for Erode, S. Sathiyamurthi for Nagapattinam, R. Shanmugam for Karur, A. Noor Ahmed for Tirunelveli, S.A. Sriramulu for Dindigul and Pudukottai (combined district forum), B. Rosiah for Tiruvarur and T. Sankara Narayana Pillai for Theni.

The sources said the post of president for the Nilgiris body was vacant since December 2003, following the transfer of the incumbent.

Similarly, the Erode and Tiruchirappalli fora were headless since June and August 2004.

Vacancies arose this year in the Dindigul and Pudukottai combined forum and those in Tiruvarur and Theni.

Following the appointment of new presidents for Nagapattinam, Karur and Tirunelveli, the incumbents, G. Fredrick Kanagaraj, R. Sarangarajan and A. Ramachandran, have been transferred to Chennai (North), Perambalur and Sivaganga.
