Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
The Lioness Council, the women's wing of Lions Club International District 324-A1, will distribute more than 500 children new clothes, mobility aids and a fireworks display at Thiruvanmiyur on Monday to mark the festive season.
Children with varying disabilities from some 20 institutions for special children in the city will participate in the function called "Deepavali Dhwani" to celebrate Deepavali and the United Nations Day.
The children between the ages of eight and 15 will also exhibit their talents at the scheduled cultural programmes, said the council chairperson, Kalyani Nagarajan, at a press conference on Saturday.
They will be given new clothes and gifts apart from wheel chairs, artificial limbs, crutches or hearing aids. They will also be treated to mimicry, magic, song and dance, dinner and a fireworks display. The event will begin at 3 p.m. at Bapalal Bhavan in Thiruvanmiyur on Monday.
