Nutrition on Wheels of the Guild of Service has donated boats
|
CHENNAI:
Nutrition on Wheels (NOW) of the Guild of Service, as part of its ongoing livelihood support programme for the tsunami-affected, distributed 30 catamarans.
Funds were given by the AMM Foundation for the project at Pudukalpakkam Kuppam on the East Coast Road.
Seetha Muthaiah, Vice-chairperson of the Guild of Service handed over the catamarans to the fishermen of Pudukalpakkam, Nemmeli, Soolerikadu and Pattipulam in Kancheepuram district.
Funding
The AMM Foundation has donated Rs. 6 lakhs for this purpose and has made a further donation of Rs. 10 lakhs, which will be used by the Guild of Service to build facilities for the tsunami-affected villagers.
The Nutrition on Wheels of the GOS has been working for the welfare of children and women in these four villages for the past 20 years, by running balwadis and conducting various income-generating programmes.
The Guild of Service has already given fibreglass boats, nets and catamarans.
