Adoor Gopalakrishnan's 73-minute work on the Kathakali maestro Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair is among the three documentaries being screened under the section `feature length documentaries' at the 10th International Film Festival of Kerala, which gets under way in the State capital on December 9. Made for the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the documentary traces the life and work of the Kathakali maestro with Ramankutty Nair's recollections acting as a cue. Ramankutty Nair recalls his poverty-stricken childhood and his initiation into the exciting and demanding world of Kathakali. The documentary revisits all the major characters that Ramankutty Nair brought alive during more than 60 years as a Kathakali performer. The other documentaries in the section are `Oscar' from Argentina and `The Colour of Silence' from Italy. The Malayalam short films `Oliche Kande' (24 minutes) and `Videogame' (30 minutes) figure among the 26 in the Short Films section of the festival.
