CHENNAI: Northeast monsoon has been active over Tamil Nadu.

Rainfall occurred at most places over Tamil Nadu, at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala and at a few places over South Interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over Telangana and Rayalaseema. Mainly dry weather prevailed over Coastal Karnataka and dry weather prevailed over Lakshadweep and North Interior Karnataka. The following stations recorded heavy rainfall in centimetres: Chennai and Thozhudur (Cuddalore dt.) 12 each, Lalgudi (Tiruchirapalli dt.) 11, Tiruchirapalli and Tiruchirapalli Airport 10 each, Srimushnam (Cuddalore dt.), Viralimalai (Pudukottai dt.) and Melur (Madurai dt.) 9 each, Tiruppuvanam (Sivagangai dt.) 8 and Kallakurichi (Villupuram dt.), Mayiladuthurai and Sirkali (both Nagapattinam dt.), Manamelkudi, Mangalapuram (Namakkal dt.), Ketti (Nilgiris dt.), Vembavur (Perambalur dt.), Pullambadi (Tiruchirapalli dt.), Thammampatti (Salem dt.) and Bandipura (Chamrajnagar dt.) 7 each. The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in centimeters are: Chidambaram (Cuddalore dt.), Tirukattupalli (Thanjavur dt.), Illuppur (Pudukottai dt.), Thuraiyur (Tiruchirapalli dt.), Chittampati and Peraiyur (both Madurai dt.) and Kavali 6 each, Madurai Airport, Thanjavur, Kumarapalayam (Namakkal dt.), 5 each.,

FORECAST (valid until Thursday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, at many places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala and at a few places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over Telangana, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka.

HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING: Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hours. Isolated heavy rain is also likely to occur over rest Tamil Nadu during the same period.
