`Drop in airfares from India'
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
The 2005 American Express Airfare Index for the Asia Pacific Region lists India among the few countries in the region where airfares have come down during the last quarter.
Despite the continuing escalation of oil prices, the third quarter index for this year reveals modest reductions in airfares from the previous quarter in most classes of travel on routes from India, Taiwan, Thailand and Hong Kong and for Business Class fares from New Zealand.
Modest increases were recorded on routes from Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and for first class and economy fares from New Zealand. Air fares from Japan and Pakistan remained unchanged or minimally changed, says a press release.
In India, the airfares index indicated that the first class fares from the country fell 0.7 per cent during the third quarter. Business class fares from India fell by 0.6 per cent and full economy fares by 0.7 per cent.
