18 TB cases detected among tribal people

Madikeri: As many as 18 cases of tuberculosis and two cases of gangrene were detected among the tribal people, who availed themselves of the benefit of free medical check-up camp organised at the community health centre in Kutta in Virajpet taluk on Tuesday.

Over 1,500 tribal people from the Nagarahole forests and colonies such as Bommadu, Kallalla, Kurchi, Tolpatti and surrounding areas of the Nagarahole National Park attended the camp, organised by the Indian Red Cross Society, Kodagu, the district administration and the zilla panchayat.

The Conservator of Forests, Kodagu Circle, P. Prem Kumar, inaugurated the camp. The vice-president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Kodagu unit, J.A. Karumbaiah, presided over the function.

The Deputy Commissioner, Subodh Yadav, the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, K. Sundar Naik, and the District Surgeon, V.D. Palekar, were the guests. Similar camps would be held in Madikeri and Somwarpet taluks in the coming days.

Janaspandana

Mr. Yadav conducted a Janaspandana programme in Srimangala, involving residents of Srimangala, Kutta, T. Shettigeri and surrounding areas. The residents took the Assistant Conservator of Forests, Wildlife Division, Hunsur, to task for not taking up solar fencing in the areas frequented by elephants in their villages.
