Nominations invited for literary award

Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam's award will be given to those who follow tenets of Tirukkural

CHENNAI: Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, the literary wing of the Shriram corporate group, has called for nominations for its ARAM award.

Although the award is being given in memory of the Tamil savant Tiruvalluvar, the recipient need not necessarily be a Tirukkural research scholar, or one who is part of a Tirukkural association or a Tamil scholar.

Criteria

The award will be given to a person from any walk of life, the criteria being that the person follows the tenets of Tirukkural as a way of living and have a philanthropic mindset, says a release from the Kazhagam.

The awardee will receive Rs. 1 lakh.

Three-member panel

A three-member advisory panel comprising Avvai Nataraasan, former Vice-Chancellor, Thanjavur Tamil University as head and G. Ranga Rao and A. M. Swaminathan, both retired civil servants as members. R. Kannan, Director, Shriram Group is its convenor.

The recipient should be a living person above 50 years.

He/she need not necessarily be a Tamilian or live in Tamil Nadu, but an Indian currently residing in India.

One cannot nominate oneself for the award.

Two persons should recommend him for the award by signing the nomination letter.

The previous awardees were Dr. G. Venkataswamy, Founder, Aravind Eye Hospitals; M.P. Vaasimalai, Founder, Dhan Foundation.

Those who wish to recommend a person for the award can send details about the nominee and his/her contributions to society in not more than two pages to Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, Greams Dugar, 5th Floor, 149, Greams Road, Chennai - 600 006.

The nominations should reach the address on or before November 30, 2005.
