Samiti opposes grant of land to dargah committee

Says Government has rejected application of Veerashaiva committee seeking land

PROTEST: Members of the Sarakari Mattu Sarvajanika Astigala Samrakshana Samiti led by former MLA Ashok Katwe staging a dharna in front of the tasildhar's office in Hubli on Tuesday.

HUBLI: Members of the Sarakari Mattu Sarvajanika Astigala Samrakshana Samiti, members of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and former MLA Ashok Katwe on Tuesday staged a dharna in front of the office of the Hubli tahsildar protesting against the move by the Government to hand over a portion of a disputed land to the Hazarat Fat-e-Shavali Dargah Committee.

Addressing protesters, Mr. Katwe said it is distressing to note that the State Government has given its consent to grant the land to the dargah committee, which had moved the court against the Government. He urged the State Government to withdraw its consent immediately.

Applications

Krishnamurthy of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike alleged that the Government has not dealt fairly with the applications of various communities. It rejected the plea of the Veerashaiva Samaj and the Veerashaiva Ganiga Samaj, which had sought the land, he said. Ranga Baddi, council member of the corporation and BJP leader, and Chandrashekhar Gokak, district convener of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, were critical of the move and opined that the State Government should not take decisions to appease the minorities.
