30 fall ill suddenly

Staff Correspondent

Bidar: At least 30 people are said to be suffering from a strange disease in Rakshal (B) village of Aurad taluk since the past three days. There have been no casualties.

According to reports reaching here, people first contract fever and then develop severe pain in their extremities. A few have been able to get symptomatic treatment at the government and private hospitals. They were treated as outpatients.

Doctors at the district government hospital suspect it is a viral infection. They said they are unable to diagnose the condition. Blood samples have been sent to hospitals in Hyderabad for tests. "We can decide on the treatment only after we get the test results," the doctors said.

However, S. Adiveppa, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, claimed that the situation is under control. He said doctors are visiting the village and monitoring the situation. So far only 30 cases have been reported, he added.
