VISAKHAPATNAM: The competition part of the all-India Nau Sainik camp concluded at the Naval Base here on Tuesday with the finals of the pulling regatta at the Navy channel.

Pulling regatta is an age-old tradition of the Navy, which exemplifies the spirit of camaraderie. The Nau Sainik camp in which cadets from all the 16 Directorates of the Navy participate, ends with the pulling regatta. This year, Uttar Pradesh-Uttaranchal Directorate managed to win the boys event, while Kerala claimed the girls title.

In the sailing event held earlier, the host AP Directorate, which won the boys and girls titles last year, could retain the girls crown but finished runner-up to Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh Directorate in the boys section.

Regatta for UP

In this year's regatta the boys final saw a close contest between UP-Uttaranchal and MP-Chhattisgarh Directorates. Though UP-U took the initial lead MP-C managed a slight lead at the half-way stage but the UP-U boys went all out when it mattered most to pip MP-C at the post. Rajasthan was third and Jammu and Kashmir took the fourth slot.

Kerala and Lakshwadeep Directorate, third last year, completely dominated the girls race. The good show by the UP-U teams saw the Directorate claiming the prestigious Cock Trophy.

Smooth sailing

In the sailing competition, MP-C boys pushed last year's winner AP and runner-up Maharashtra one position back. AP and Karnataka girls once again finished first and second, while Maharashtra took the third place.

The Commanding Officer of the INS Circars, Commodore S.P.R. Reddy, who was the chief guest, appreciated the cadets for successfully completing the camp in spite of adverse weather conditions for most days. Deputy Director-General of AP NCC Directorate K.P. Bhaskaran, Group Commander of Visakhapatnam NCC Group Headquarters A.V.S. Ramesh and Office in-charge of Competitions Arun D. Mangutkar spoke.
