VIJAYAWADA: If you are a working couple and are desperately on the lookout for a domestic maid, it is time you slotted yourself as a dreamer. For most working parents, engaging a domestic maid and putting up with her tantrums is a Hobson's choice. Fading eagerness among women from the lower stratum of society to find work as maids is all too clear. Grievances of working women and housewives are on the rise as far as the domestic scenario is concerned. Empathising with the `victims', officials at the helm of affairs in the district have come out with a unique plan to assist disgruntled couples find domestic help in a relatively easier way. The administration plans to introduce a course in housekeeping for rural women with poor financial background. "There is a lot of demand for domestic help. Lack of an organised system to find this made us think of new modes," says district Collector Navin Mittal. The officials intend to involve social organisations in imparting a month-long training to those interested.
Poor response
Krishna district Women and Child Welfare Department will enrol the interested candidates. "The initial response to the course is not very encouraging. We wanted to enrol at least a hundred girls and women in the first batch. But not more than 10 of them have come forward," says K. Suhasini Devi, project director of the department. But, the administration hopes that it will catch up as the days pass by with more number of women getting trained.
