Technological advancements and exposure have increased the awareness level of children. Still, there are reports of children being exploited and denied their rights. Several organisations have voiced their concern for such children. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) calls for attention to uphold child rights. Working towards this cause, Sakthi-Vidiyal, an initiative to rehabilitate and reintegrate street and working children, will organise drawing and painting competitions for school children on `child rights' at the Indian Medical Association Hall, Medical College campus, on November 14 in connection with the Children's Day celebration. The competition will be conducted in four categories. For children of 8 to 10 years, the topic is `Right to Life;' for 11 and 12 years of age it is `Right to Development;' the topic for those 13 and 14 years of age it is `Right to Protection' and for 15-16, it is `Right to Participation.' Entries close before November 10 with S. Muthukumar, Coordinator, Sakthi-Vidiyal, 6 A.A. Road, Rathinapuram, Madurai-625 011. Phone: 0452-2675632, Mobile: 9245126748.
