Bottles of IMFL seized, 10 persons arrested

Smuggled from Pondicherry

DINDIGUL : The Prohibition Enforcement Wing police seized 470 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor smuggled from Pondicherry during surprise raids at three places in and around Dindigul on Tuesday. Ten persons were arrested on the charges of smuggling and stocking liquor without any valid licences. The team seized four vehicles including a car, a mini-lorry and two autorickshaws used for smuggling and transporting liquor bottles.

The team, led by PEW Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Vellaidurai conducted vehicle check on the outskirts of the town last night.

In the first raid, the police intercepted a van and found IMFL bottles from Pondicherry. They arrested four persons — P. Perumal (32), driver of mini-lorry, Saravanan (21) of Kodaiparaipatti, Durai (47) of Chinnayapuram and Velankanni (31) of Kodaiparaipatti. About 200 bottles of IMFL made in Pondicherry were seized.

In the second raid, the team intercepted a car on the outskirts and found 200 Pondicherry-made IMFL bottles in it. Four persons — Ravichandran (35) of Vedapatti, Irulappan (41) of Kodaiparaipatti and Muthukumar (38) of Dindigul and Nagaraj (47) of Dindigul — were arrested. About 200 bottles containing IMFL smuggled from Pondicherry were seized from them.

At Nagal Nagar, Radhakrishnan and Murugesan were arrested on the charges of stocking 70 IMFL bottles in a petty shop. Seventy bottles were seized from them. All the arrested were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
