Verdict today on Kanchi Acharya's case transfer plea
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court will give on Wednesday its verdict on the petition filed by the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, for transfer of the Sankararaman murder case to a court outside Tamil Nadu.
A Bench, comprising Chief Justice R.C. Lahoti and Justice G.P. Mathur, reserved orders on October 20. The Sankaracharya had pleaded that the case be transferred to any of the courts in the districts neighbouring Kancheepuram, viz. Chittoor, Kadapa and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.
Though the Tamil Nadu Government opposed the transfer, it said that in the event of the apex court shifting the case, it could be transferred to a court in Pondicherry, where there would not be any language problem.
