ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday reaffirmed his country's commitment to finding a "just and equitable resolution" to the Kashmir issue. Talking to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik, who called on him at Rawalpindi, Gen. Musharraf said Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) should be allowed to help each other in relief and reconstruction work in the quake-hit region. India and Pakistan have formally communicated their proposals on softening the LoC after Gen. Musharraf announced that Pakistan was ready to throw open the LoC to facilitate the crossing over of Kashmiris. While India has set up three relief camps along the LoC, Pakistan has identified five points for allowing Kashmiris to help each other in relief and reconstruction efforts. Pakistani and Indian officials will meet here on October 29 to discuss the modalities to implement the proposals. Yasin Malik, who is in Pakistan for over a week to help quake victims, called on Gen. Musharraf to express solidarity on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "The people of Pakistan are committed to the cause of Kashmir and want a just and equitable resolution to the dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people," an official statement quoted Gen. Musharraf as telling the JKLF leader.
