VISAKHAPATNAM: The CPI (Maoist) has brought in some leaders and changed the secretaries of some of its area committees in the agency area of its Andhra-Orissa Border (AOB) special zone.

Another major step it has taken is to appoint a secretary for the Visakhapatnam city committee, a post lying vacant for several years after the previous secretaries, who had been quite active, were killed in encounters.

According to available information, 22 cadres had been brought to the AOB area from the Telangana region. A few more were also reportedly shifted from Srikakulam to the agency area. Eighteen cadres from this area were shifted to other parts of the State.

Sriramulu Srinivas alias Sri Sri is the new city secretary of the CPI (Maoist). A native of Nalgonda district, he was active in the party since his student days and is said to be an expert in guerrilla tactics.

    City unit strengthened

Srinivas was brought to the city to beef up the Maoist party which found its activities coming to a halt after the death of its secretaries, Ankella Bhaskar alias Madhu on April 16, 1999, Chirra Chidanandam alias Kaumudi on December 24, 2003, and active committee member Janardhan on the next day. Along with Srinivas, the party has sent four more leaders, including Prashanti alias Rajani, to the city committee to revive the party activities.

In the agency area, Bhupati, a senior party activist from Guntur district, was made Galikonda area committee secretary and Praveen, another senior person, was made member of the committee. Srikanth from the north Telangana State committee took over as the secretary of Korukonda area committee.

Extensive changes have been made in the party's local guerrilla squads and special guerrilla squads.
