Alappuzha
Staff Reporter
ALAPPUZHA: The Congress has lost its upper-hand in the United Democratic Front (UDF) after the recent elections to the local bodies, the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) president, K. Muraleedharan, has opined. Inaugurating the Alappuzha district delegates' meeting of the party here on Tuesday, Mr. Mualeedharan said UDF victory in two districts in the civic elections was made possible by the strength of the UDF constituents.
Weakness exposed
UDF victory in Malappuram and Kottayam had exposed the weakness of the Congress, added Mr. Muraleedharan. He said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala's claims that the Congress had got more votes in the recently held local body elections when compared to the Parliament elections were aimed at the former Chief Minister, A.K. Antony.
False credit
DIC(K) parliamentary party leader T.M. Jacob who delivered the keynote address said the 10-point development agenda for the State introduced by Mr. Chandy recently was the development agenda that was approved by the Cabinet when Mr. Antony was the Chief Minister. That agenda was a nine-point one and Mr. Chandy added one point to it and took the credit for the whole thing, said Mr. Jacob. He said the Chief Minister should relinquish Home portfolio as the Congress leaders were saying that there was a conspiracy by a section of police officers against the Government.
