`Doubts over Indo-U.S. nuclear pact'

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party president Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Tuesday said that the nuclear agreement between India and the US had come within the purview of doubt due to populist statements emanating from America.

In a statement here, Mr. Chauhan said that even four months after the agreement had been signed, US President George Bush had neither been able to supply the vital nuclear material to India nor could he get the agreement approved by the Senate. Mr. Chauhan said the biggest failure of the Central Government was that it had failed to ensure a deadline for implementation of the nuclear agreement. He blamed the UPA Govt. for "pawning" the country's autonomy on the nuclear issue.

Mr. Chauhan said the agreement with the US had put a question mark on the policy of non-alignment. It was only after entering into this agreement that India's relations with Iran had been adversely affected.
