Rajasthan Congress gets a new team

Special Correspondent

Many supporters of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot find place in the much-awaited list

  • List reconfirms PCC president B.D. Kalla's position as the leader of the State unit
  • Permanent invitees include Union Ministers from the State, ex-CMs, ex-PCC chiefs and ex-Dy. CMs

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee has finally received much-awaited clearance on the names of office bearers, executive committee and disciplinary action committee from the party high command in New Delhi. The names, which seemingly went through several changes after PCC president B.D. Kalla submitted them to party president Sonia Gandhi about two months ago, contain a good number of supporters of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The list perhaps has come as a relief to Mr. Kalla as well as it reconfirms his position as the leader of the State unit. Mr. Kalla, who at present holds posts of PCC chief and the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, has been feeling unsteady about his position in the wake of criticism from party men about his "lack lustre" performance. He was also feeling somewhat nervous after he rather unwittingly released a book last month on Sonia Gandhi, which contained certain unsympathetic remarks on the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and on Ms. Sonia Gandhi herself.

The newly appointed vice-presidents include Bina Kak, Chandra Bhan and Parasram Mordia, all former Ministers, Hari Singh Choudhary and Tarachand Bhagora, former MPs, Hari Singh Mahuwa, former chief whip, Aimamudhin, MLA and Raghu Sharma. The eight general secretaries are: Asq Ali Tak, Jai Singh Rathore, Mumtaz Masih, Raghuveer Meena, Rajendra Pareek, Ram Gopal Bairwa, Sooraj Khatri and Suchitra Arya.

The 31-member executive committee has former Ministers C.P. Joshi, Bhagraj Choudhary, Bhanwarlal Sharma, Dijvijay Singh, Janardhan Singh Gehlot, besides Rama Pilot, Vijay Laxmi Bishnoi, Sona Ram Choudhary, Ram Raghunath Choudhary, Richpal Mirdha, Daljit Singh, Dayaram Parmar, Hafiz Mohammed, Hameeda Begum, Mahendra Singh, Mahesh Joshi, Mahipal Maderna, Nirmala Shaktawat and Prasadilal Meena.

The permanent invitees include former Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot, Jagannath Pahadia and Shiv Charan Mathur, Union Ministers K. Natwar Singh, Sis Ram Ola and Namonarain Meena, former Speaker, Parasram Maderna, former PCC presidents Ramnarain Choudhary and Narain Singh, former Deputy Chief Ministers, Banwarilal Bairwa and Kamla, chief whip of the Congress in the Assembly Zuber Khan and Deputy chief whip, Ramnarain Meena.

The special invitees include former Deputy Speaker Devendra Singh, former Ministers Zakia Inam and Jitendra Singh, Amin Khan, Ramakant Vyas, Mohan Prakash, R.P. Singh and Mahendra Mathur. Former MLA from Beawar, K.C. Choudhary will be the treasurer.

The new spokespersons for the PCC would be Param Navdeep Singh and Sampat Singh Dhamora.

The party MPs Jamuna Barupal, Moolchand Meena, Santosh Bagrodia, Prabha Thakur, Kara Singh Yadav and Sachin Pilot are special invitees along with chiefs of frontal organizations. The list has 26 persons as PCC secretaries including former MLAs, Meenakshi Chandrawat, Bhagwan Sahay Saini and Poonam Goyal.

Former Minister Pradhyuma Singh will head the disciplinary action committee. Its members are Shankar Pannu, Prabha Thakur, Hafiz Mohammed, Prasadilal Meena and Ram Raghunath Choudhary.

The high command obviously has pruned the list submitted by Mr. Kalla in what was obviously an attempt to accommodate various pressure groups.

The original list had as many as 20 names for general secretaries which the party leadership got Mr. Kalla to revise during his half a dozen trips to New Delhi in this connection.
