Sops for TTD staff

TIRUMALA: The TTD Trust Board, which met at Tirumala on Tuesday has announced monetary benefits for TTD staff and workers including payment of PRC wages, enhancement of Brahmothsavam Bahumanam from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 3000 and pilgrim allowance from Rs. 500 to Rs. 750 per month. The Joint Action Committee of TTD employees thanked the TTD Board. - Special Correspondent

Four die in Nellore district

Nellore: Four persons lost their lives in different incidents in the district on Tuesday. A passenger travelling in Gurudev Express died at Gudur, following a heart attack and at Sullurpet, a boy died due to brain fever. At Kondapuram, an 18-year old person lost his life, after he accidentally fell into a stream and at Kaligiri, a 14-year old girl, died after she fell off a moving autorickshaw. - Staff Reporter

Deadline extended

Nellore: The last date for submitting applications with regard to filling of surplus seats in Government ITI for Girls, Nellore, has been extended to October 29 and counselling will commence on November 1. New facility for hospital

KURNOOL: The proposal to set up a cath lab and MRI in the General Hospital here reached the final stage. It is likely to cost Rs. 3 crores and MRI Rs 4.5 crores. Since the proposal covered an amount of Rs 1.5 crores for building, the hospital authorities requested for diversion of the amount for creating extra facility for open-heart surgery since the hospital has accommodation for the new unit. - Staff Reporter

Papaya plants felled

ANANTAPUR: About 1,200 papaya plants belonging to one Laxminarayana, a farmer of Sanjeevapuram village in Bathalapalli mandal, were felled allegedly by unidentified persons on Monday night. The loss suffered by him was estimated at Rs. 2 lakhs. - Staff Reporter

Santosh Reddy's effigies burnt

HYDERABAD: Effigies of rebel TRS leader S. Santosh Reddy were set on fire in Telangana districts on Tuesday in response to a call by the TRS, according to the party's general secretary S. Madusudhana Chary. Workers protested against Mr. Reddy allowing himself to be used by the Congress to bring about a split in the TRS. Party leaders accused Advisor to the Government K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao of trying to lure some TRS MLAs. - Special Correspondent

Mines recovered

VISAKHAPATNAM: Police recovered seven suitcase-type mines between Rallagedda and T. Gangavaram villages Koyyuru mandal on Tuesday. A special police party had caught former commander of Konalova local guerilla squad Sileri Rambabu in Visakhapatnam-East Godavari border area. The mines were recovered after interrogating Rambabu. - Staff Reporter

Tiger gives chase

Khammam: A group of women collecting firewood in Chetakonda forest in Kothagudem division was chased by a tiger on Tuesday. Three women managed to escape by jumping into the river, while two went missing. A band of 150 villagers armed with bows and arrows launched a search and rescued the missing women.

Dentists reassured

HYDERABAD: Health Minister K. Rosaiah has assured dental assistant surgeons working on a contract basis in Government hospitals that a notification to fill 150 posts would be issued at the earliest. A delegation of APVVP-Dental Assistant Surgeons' Association met him on Tuesday. - Special Correspondent

Two girls drowned

KADAPA: Two girls were drowned in Chemullapalle tank in Khajipet mandal late on Monday. Nakkaladinne Parvathi (13) and Kommuluru Uthaka (14), were drowned while swimming, according to police. - Staff Reporter

Two electrocuted

KADAPA: A woman and her daughter were electrocuted in Balathimmayapalle village in Chakrayapet mandal. Beegala Nagamma (50) was electrocuted after stepping on a live wire when she went to cut grass. Her daughter B. Venkatalakshmamma (18) also got electrocuted when she tried to rescue her mother. - Staff Reporter

Congress protest

KARIMNAGAR: Congress activists led by Jammikunta Agricultural Market Committee chairman, T. Sammi Reddy, burnt an effigy of TRS legislator Kasipeta Lingaiah in Jammikunta mandal headquarters on Tuesday. They denounced Mr. Lingaiah's statements against the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy and Government advisor, K.V.P. Ramchander Rao. - Staff Reporter

PSU staff to benefit

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Public Sector Employees' Federation has thanked Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for agreeing to extend the new pay scales to the public sector staff saying that it will benefit 20,000 employees.

Lifer for killing wife

ADILABAD: The Adilabad Second Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) K.V. Vijaya Kumar on Tuesday sentenced Bandari Swami of Tantoli village in Adilabad mandal to life for killing his wife Rajakka in 2004 by strangulating her with a rope, suspecting her fidelity. - Staff Reporter

Ganja recovered

NIZAMABAD: The Dichpally police recovered two quintals of ganja worth Rs. 1.50 lakhs from one Sriramulu of Rooplanaik tanda in Dichpally mandal on Tuesday, according to the Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddha. - Staff Reporter
