KARIMNAGAR : Doctors of the Government Headquarters Hospital in Karimnagar town staged a dharna in front of the hospital on Wednesday in protest against the Government's decision to suspend five employees, including the hospital superintendent, following the death of twins on Sunday. The dharna caused inconvenience to the patients coming from far-flung areas. Serpentine queues were formed near the chambers of various specialist doctors. A majority of the patients supported the Government for suspending the doctors and the medical staff for their alleged negligence.
Support
The Government had suspended Superintendent A. Narendra, civil surgeon N. Krishna Murthy, civil assistant surgeon N. Sharada, staff nurse D. Tulasi and ANM D. Pulla Bhai. On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors' Association district president Anantha Rao and secretary Aleem and others participated in the dharna.
Vacant posts
Asking the Government to fill vacant surgeon posts of ENT and civil surgeon, physician, psychiatrist, skin specialist and other posts in the hospital, they threatened to intensify the agitation. Doctors of periphery hospitals in Godavarikhani, Jagtial, Sircilla, Husnabad and Metpally would also participate in the dharna on Thursday demanding revoking of the suspension, they said.
