NEW DELHI: Not only the common man, even Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, four of her Cabinet colleagues and a majority of the MLA are unhappy with the power situation and the maintenance of streetlights in the Capital in the run-up to Diwali. With the deadline for submission of `satisfactory' status report on streetlights in their respective areas having expired on Monday, only 26 MLAs including a large number belonging to the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party have given the green signal to the streetlights and their maintenance in their respective areas. Among those who have failed to submit a report by the October 24 deadline include Ms. Dikshit, PWD and Finance Minister A. K. Walia, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, and Power Minister Haroon Yusuf himself. Embarrassed by the negative or no feedback from the MLAs, the Delhi Government on Tuesday decided to extend the deadline to October 29 for submission of report. Prominent among those who have submitted a positive report on the streetlight situation in their areas are former Minister Pervez Hashmi, former Speaker Subhash Chopra, Nationalist Congress Party MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Vijay Lochav, Tarwinder Marwah, Kiran Walia, Barkha Singh, Tajdar Babar, Ranvir Singh Kharab, Bijender Singh, Dayanand Chandela, Balram Tanwar, O.P. Babbar, Sushil Chaudhary and Ramesh Bidhuri. A majority stated that streetlights on the main roads were working almost 100 per cent.
