NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Delhi police on an application by R.K. Sharma, prime accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case and suspended Inspector-General (Prison) of the Haryana police, seeking interim bail for three months on the ground that the doctors treating him after the operation of his spine had advised him bed rest under family care. Sharma's spine was operated upon on October 15 at a private hospital at Mohali in Punjab. Issuing the notice, Justice S.K. Aggarwal asked the Delhi police to file a reply to the petition by November 10 when the bail application would be taken up for hearing. In the meanwhile, Mr. Justice Aggarwal directed Sharma not shift to his home at Panchkula in Haryana till the next date. Mr. Justice R.S. Sodhi the High Court had on October 10 directed Sharma to undergo operation of his spine under police custody. Sharma and his five co-accused are facing trial for criminal conspiracy read with murder for allegedly killing the then Indian Express Principal Correspondent, Shivani Bhatnagar, at Navkunj Apartments at Patparganj in East Delhi in 1999.
