The party may demand fresh polls to Delhi Assembly, MCD

NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan announced on Tuesday that a delegation of the party would meet the President and demand fresh elections to the Delhi Assembly and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi as both the Delhi Government and the Congress-led Corporation had failed the people.

Speaking at a protest demonstration organised by the BJP Tughlakabad Mandal at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Central Zone in Lajpat Nagar to raise the issues of filth and squalor, scarcity of water, harassment of the poor, privatisation and corruption in Government offices, tremendous increase in prices, and poor law and order situation, Dr. Vardhan said what was true of Tughlakabad was true of the rest of the Capital.

"The condition of entire Delhi is like Tughlakabad. Everywhere one can find filth and squalor," he said, adding that "the `dhalaos' (garbage bins) are overflowing, the drains and sewers are choked, the roads are broken, problem of stray animals is far from resolved, water is scarce." As for MCD, Dr. Vardhan said it had turned into a hub of corruption and there was bungling in everything -- benches, computers, uniforms, textbooks, mid-day meals and drug.

Noting with concern that the Central Bureau of Investigation had on several occasions caught Congress councillors taking bribes, he said this had not deterred them from repeating the offences.

Dr. Vardhan also accused the Delhi Government of swindling away crores of rupees in the name of privatisation of power and water in the Capital. He said after the privatisation of water, people will also have to pay several times over for their water bills.
